Entry Requirements
- UCAS Tariff points/Grades required:
- 260 - 280
- 260 - 280 UCAS Tariff points from three A2s or equivalent (such as BTEC Extended Diploma at Level 3 DMM or Advanced Diploma).
- An English subject at GCE A Level is preferred e.g. English Language, English Literature, English Language/Literature. Subjects such as Creative Writing, Drama, Theatre Studies, Religious Education, History, Media Studies and General Studies will also be considered
- Specific GCSE requirements: GCSE Grade C or above (or acceptable alternative) in English Language or Literature
- Non Tariffed Qualifications: A relevant Level 3 Access to HE Diploma will be considered for entry to this course
- International Baccalaureate points: 26
- IELTS score required for international students: 6.0 with no element below 5.5
Curriculum
Year 1
- In Year 1 there is a compulsory syllabus, with course units in narrative, poetry, drama and critical dialogues. These units will introduce you to the reading skills and ideas needed for the study of English.
Year 2
- In Year 2 there is a choice of core options which represent some of the major aspects of the subject, for example Romanticism and critical and cultural theory. There are also opportunities for more specialised research through specialist unit options which draw on areas of staff expertise, including television studies and representations of disability, black music and culture, British cinemas and creative writing workshops.
Year 3
- In Year 3 you will undertake a major project. For many this will be a dissertation, but others may choose a creative writing project, working in poetry, prose fiction or dramatic script, under the direction of a professional writer. You also have a free choice of options from a diverse range of units.
