PGCert in Education

The PG Certificate in Education is designed for individuals and organisational cohorts seeking to advance their expertise in education. The programme blends theory and practice, fostering critical thinking and research skills to address contemporary educational challenges. Students will explore a range of topics such as curriculum, pedagogy, leadership, and technology, gaining a comprehensive understanding of various educational dimensions. The programme offers flexibility, allowing students to choose from a range of modules. Although it does not confer Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), the PG Certificate provides a solid foundation for further academic advancement in the field of education.

Entry Requirements for Relevant Programmes

• Degree Requirement:

  • Relevant second-class honours degree (2:2) or international equivalent

  • Relevant experience may be required for some programmes

  • Non-UK qualifications will be assessed based on this standard

• Alternative Considerations:

  • Malaysian applicants, expatriates, and their families residing in Malaysia without the standard entry requirements may be considered based on substantial and relevant work experience

  • Applicants must pass the Accredited Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) assessment through the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA)

• University Recognition:

  • Applicants must hold a degree from a recognised university

• Program Considerations:

  • We welcome applicants from diverse academic backgrounds

  • Some programmes may require prior qualifications in related fields

• Admissions Process:

  • Applicants may be invited to attend an interview if further evaluation is required

• Eligibility Confirmation:

  • Eligibility will be confirmed upon submission of a complete application

English Language Requirements:

• IELTS (Academic): 6.5 (with no less than 6.0 in each element)

• TOEFL (iBT): 90 (minimum 19 in Writing and Listening, 20 in Reading and 22 in Speaking)

• PTE (Academic): 71 (with no less than 65 in each element)

• MUET: Band 4.5

• Test results must be less than two years old

• IELTS One Skill Retake is accepted

• IELTS Academic Online, TOEFL iBT Home Edition, and PTE Academic Online are not accepted

• MUET results are valid for five years from the release date

Core Module:

• Practice-Based Inquiry

  • Focuses on active critical consideration of participation and leadership in practitioner inquiry within professional contexts.

  • Topics covered:

    • Conceptualizing various types of practitioner inquiry relevant to work-based understanding and development (e.g., purposes, processes, dilemmas, outcomes).

    • Examining different approaches to educational inquiry, with a focus on action research.

    • Developing an inquiry into your professional context.
