Master of Science in Public Health (Online)

Explore the intricate art and science of disease prevention, life extension, and health promotion through IMU’s Public Health programme. This programme equips graduates with the skills and knowledge to become influential contributors to community well-being by improving social conditions and fostering healthy behaviours and lifestyles. Through immersive, hands-on experiences within local public health departments, students gain invaluable practical insights and expertise under the mentorship of experienced specialists and public health professionals.  

Students are supervised by faculty members who are experts in their respective fields and hold well-established national and international reputations. IMU’s academic community is actively engaged in diverse research activities, regularly presenting findings at international conferences to stay updated on the latest developments in specialised areas. Faculty members also contribute to international peer-reviewed journals, further strengthening IMU’s research standing. The IMU MSc in Public Health is recognised by the Malaysian Public Service Department (JPA) and the Ministry of Health (MOH), making it a valuable qualification for healthcare professionals in the public sector, particularly those within the MOH, who seek career advancement in a related field. Graduates of this master’s programme are also eligible to apply for positions within the public sector.  

The programme incorporates a research component, requiring students to complete a research project. Experiential learning is further enhanced through field visits to the Ministry of Health, Local Councils, and Non-Governmental Organisations. Additionally, e-learning approaches, including web-based learning, are extensively utilised to support the curriculum. Students benefit from IMU’s strong research collaborations with various local and international institutions in areas such as cancer research, bioactive molecules, nutrition, and environmental health. Furthermore, IMU has established close links with local hospitals, including Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar, particularly in the area of clinical research.

ODL: Designed specifically for students with work, family, or other commitments, IMU’s mode of learning offers flexibility and convenience, enabling students to schedule their studies around their obligations and lifestyle. This approach allows students to plan and pace their learning at a time and in an environment that best suits their needs. Additionally, this learning mode helps students save time and costs associated with commuting to the university or relocating to be near the campus.

Part-time study mode duration: 2-6 years
 

Applicants are required to have obtained:

• A Bachelor’s Degree in the field or related fields with a minimum cGPA of 2.50 or equivalent, as accepted by the University’s Senate; or
• A Bachelor’s Degree in the field or related fields or equivalent with a minimum CGPA of 2.00 and not meeting a CGPA of 2.50, can be accepted subject to rigorous internal assessment.

For students opting for University of Arizona Credit Recognition Pathway

• Applicants to the MPH-UA programme must possess a minimum CGPA of 3.00 in their undergraduate degree when submitting their application for this pathway.

• Cambridge English : Advanced (CAE) : Overall score of 154; or

• Pearson Test of English (PTE) : Overall score of 47;

The following categories of students are exempted from the above requirements:

• International students from countries in which English is the first language.
• International students who graduated from any Malaysian or other institutions where the curriculum is delivered in English.
