About
Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) stands as one of the professions listed within the allied health science (AHS) category. Despite its importance, this profession often remains unfamiliar to the general public due to its behind-the-scenes nature, unlike the more visible roles of Nurses and Medical Assistants. However, MLTs play a crucial role in the medical laboratory service, operating throughout all stages from pre-clinical to post-clinical. They serve as integral members of the healthcare team, contributing significantly to the diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention of diseases through clinical laboratory tests.
The primary responsibility of MLTs involves conducting diagnostic tests in hospital and health clinic laboratories, generating test results essential for doctors to make accurate diagnoses. These tests cover a wide array of specimens including blood, urine, body fluids, feces (stool), and tissue samples, depending on the specific test requirements. MLTs ensure the suitability of patient specimens for testing and strive to deliver accurate results promptly to facilitate effective treatment.
Our program incorporates a 28-week Medical Laboratory Placement in the third year, providing students with valuable hands-on experience in real-world laboratory settings.
